Artist's Narrative

Madcap Productions For 35 years, Madcap Productions Puppet Theatre has brought together giant puppets (up to 12 ft. tall), professionally trained actors, and imaginative children's theater scripts.  All performances are designed to provide a rich theatrical experience for the audience as well as a new and challenging view of the art of puppetry.  Each year, Madcap's skilled actors/puppeteers tour schools and libraries across a twenty state region.

Recent Feedback From Schools

"We are a literature based alternative school and Madcap Productions emphasized literature as part of their performance. The students were very engaged with the creativity and antics. Before the show many of the classrooms learned about Mark Twain so they were able to relate and make connections by seeing the story acted out using life size puppets."

Residencies (Grade levels K-8)

Customizable visits from our artist-in-residence
Looking for a way to entertain and educate children in the arts? What better way than giant puppets and a professional puppeteer? Our residency artist comes to your organization for one to two weeks of hands-on arts education.

Structure and Length
The structure of a Madcap residency is flexible to allow for an experience suited to your organization's learning objectives and number of participants. The length of residency will vary from one week to two weeks depending on the number of students.

Content and Objectives
I. Introduction to Puppet Theatre and Storytelling
(Grades K-5. Maximum 400 students for a one-week program)

Students are drawn into the incredible world of puppet theatre and the oral tradition of storytelling and are encouraged to create their own stories. They will participate in a storytelling/performance experience that includes puppet manipulation, drama and movement. If there is time in the schedule, the artist may work with a small core group of students to create an exciting performance for the final assembly!

II. Puppet Construction and Manipulation
(Grades PreK–8)

This residency is a hands-on approach to puppet building! Students create their own puppet and, if time allows, learn puppet manipulation and vocal techniques. Best of all, at the end of the week, each student will have his/her own puppet masterpiece to take home!
