El Calido Viento

Artist's Narrative

 El Calido Viento Rodolfo Vazquez, flute, is a former professor of flute at the Conservatorio Nacional de Musica del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes,and principal flute with the Orquesta Filarmonica del Conservatorio Nacional de Musica,  both in Mexico City, and the Orquesta Sinfonica de la Universidad de Guanajuato in Guanajuato, Mexico. He regularly tours as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles in the U.S., Mexico, England and Switzerland. Rodolfo is music director of Vazquez & Ferguson (Silver & Spruce) and El Calido Viento. He has received grants from the Ohio Arts Council in support of his work. He studied with the world renowned Irish flutist Sir James Galway, who wrote of Rodolfo, your music is charming and beautifully played. In 2006 and 2008 he participated in the Sir James Galway International Flute Masterclass in Interlaken and Weggis, Switzerland, also performing with the Sir James Galway Flute Choir.  His attendance in 2008 was supported by an Artistic Excellence scholarship from the Marc Rich Foundation. Sir James commented, the [2006] class in Interlaken was the best I have ever heard as a teacher or performer and your wonderful playing is still a very vivid memory.

Rodolfo is chairman of the Ohio Hispanic Fine Arts Association. This is an Organization that promotes Latino arts in Ohio. He taught flute at Ohio State University CAP program for nine years. Rodolfo has been musician-in-residence at Covenant Presbyterian Church for twelve years.

Craig Goodwin, guitar, studied at Colorado State University,  The Ohio State University, and Ohio University.  He began composing at age fifteen on the piano and guitar.  Goodwin is now one of the most sought after guitarists in the Midwest,  performing over 300 concerts a year.  In addition to his solo and ensemble work, he has performed and toured  with the national recording group McGuffey Lane and international legend Roger McGwinn, among others.  He is currently finishing his second CD of compositions for guitar, and plays in five different ensembles, ranging  from childrenÂ’s to jazz to Latin American.

Programs Available

Latin Music (Grade levels K-12)
The flute and guitar duo El Cálido Viento offers a cultural journey through the music styles of Latin America and Spain. These pieces are presented in a didactic form and represent some of the finest music written by Latin composers. Every rhythm, dance, music style and musical instrument used in this program is explained and discussed during the event. El Cálido Viento brings to their audiences what music really is in Spanish speaking countries. This program addresses some Ohio proficiency test objectives and increases cultural and social awareness. El Cálido Viento has been an arts education resource in Ohio schools with the Greater Columbus Arts Council Artists-in-Schools program, the Association for the Advancement of Arts Education of Cincinnati and the Children's Concerts Society of Akron for many years. Their school performances have been received with extraordinary success.
