Artist's Narrative

Bob Ford Bob Ford combines his love of reading with his love of history and the arts to create fun- filled programs that encourage students to read more about the lives of the men and women who shaped this country's history.

African American, Native American and European men and women are featured in his performances about early Ohio history. Bob has performed for over a quarter of a million students in schools across the Midwest. In his playwriting residencies, Bob has helped students research, write and perform over 30 original plays about Ohio history.

Each of his programs is carefully researched for historic accuracy and conforms to current core content goals and standards. Each program uses interactive songs, theatre games, and story telling - directly involving each student and exciting their imaginations. Follow up activities include reading, journaling, writing and historic research projects. Students will learn because they are having so much fun!

Programs Available

The Frontiers Women (Grade levels 2-6)
Benchmarks: Oral v. written history; family lore; past v. present; roles of women, men and children; biographies of Betty Zane, Mary Ingles, Mad Anne Bailey, Mary Harris, the "Mrs's" of History; Native American v. European cultures; music and drama.

Follow the women into the Ohio Country. Highlight of the program is a women's frontier fashion show with student participants.

Ohio's Underground Railroad (Grade levels 4-12)
Benchmarks: Oral v. written history, family lore, slavery & systems of labor; biographies; individual actions & responsibilities; abolitionists; Levi Coffin, Rev. Rankin, John Parker, Rhial Cheadle, Soujourner Truth; music and drama.

Learn the true stories and songs of the men and women who worked together to end slavery. Students will re-enact an abolitionist meeting, electing officers and debating how to end slavery.

Blue Jacket and Daniel Boone (Grade levels 4-12)
Benchmarks Oral v. Written history, personal family lore, past v. present, French & Indian War, Proclamation Line 1763, Fallen Timbers, biographies Daniel Boone & Blue Jacket, early settlements & important battles; Native American, African American v. European cultures; exploration & discovery.

The early history of the Ohio country is told through the lives of two frontier heroes -- Blue Jacket and Daniel Boone. Timeline begins with French & Indian War and ends with Treaty of Greenville.

Using authentic folktales, theater games and songs, this program compares frontier family life from three cultures, Native American, European and African American living on the Ohio Frontier.
