Useful Tools for Effective Advocacy

Who is an arts education advocate? YOU ARE!

  • Did you know that the arts industry contributes six percent of our nation’s gross national product?
  • Did you know that many Ohio communities depend on the arts to support their local economies?
  • Did you also know that the State Board of Education requires most Ohio students to complete two semesters in the arts in grades 7-12?

The Ohio Alliance for Arts Education works to promote high quality arts education programs in Ohio for all students. In order to accomplish our mission OAAE needs YOU to be an arts education advocate. The information that follows will help you talk about the impact the arts have on student achievement, the economy, and quality of life.

Write letters to the editor of your local newspaper. Contact your legislators or State Board of Education representatives. Share information about the importance of arts education with the parents and educators in your social networks. Send out tweets; post images on Instagram and Facebook - and when you do, make sure to tag your district leaders and elected officials, and use those hashtags! Make a personal commitment each month to promote arts education in your school, district, and community. Your support will strengthen OAAE’s advocacy efforts, and make it possible to achieve our common goals.
